Army chief announces gallantry awards for injured, slain army men in Quetta attack

QUETTA: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Tuesday announced gallantry awards for Captain Roohullah and Naib Subedar Muhammad Ali who participated in an operation against the attackers of the Quetta police training academy Monday night, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The announcement came during the army chief's interaction with the troops, hours after terrorists stormed a police training centre and killed at least 60 security personnel.

Captain Roohullah was awarded the Tamgha-e-Jurat, whereas Naib Subedar Muhammad Ali was awarded the Tamgha-e-Basalat, ISPR said.

General Sharif, who was accompanied by Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lt-Gen Rizwan Akhtar and DG MI Major General Nadeem Zaki Manj, visited the police training centre where he was given detailed briefing on the terror attack.

The army chief also met police, army and Frontier Corps personnel who carried out the operation last night to clear the area and eliminate the attackers.

General Sharif appreciated the morale, courage and determination of security personnel for preventing further damage and saving lives.

The army chief, along with Balochistan Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti, Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri and several others, attended the funeral prayers of those killed in the attack.
