COAS visits ALTU, spends time with patients

Islamabad-Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif yesterday visited Army Liver Transplant Unit (ALTU) Rawalpindi, ISPR said.

During the visit, the Army Chief was given a detailed briefing about the state-of-the-art medical facilities established at the institute. The Chief of Army Staff visited different departments of the institute and spent time with patients and inquired after their well being.

Appreciating doctors and paramedical staff of the institute, the COAS commended their commitment and dedication for establishing such a facility and best medical care being extended to the patients.

Army Liver Transplant Unit (ALTU) is the first liver transplant programme introduced in Pakistan Armed Forces, 3rd in the country which is being developed as national multi-organ transplant centre.

Two hundred and sixty successful hepato-pancreato-biliary (liver related) and six successful live liver transplant surgeries have been performed so far in consultation/collaboration with University Hospital Birmingham, UK.

Earlier on arrival at ALTU, the COAS was received by Lieutenant General Anwar Ali Hyder, Adjutant General Pakistan Army and Major General Tariq Hussian, Commandant Military Hospital.
