VEHARI - The District Bar Vehari secretary general has filed a petition with the court against the regional police officer Multan, DPO Vehari and in charge CIA staff Vehari against misuse of power by police.

The CIA staff had arrested some persons immediately after they got bail from the court in front of the District Jail Vehari, Masood Zafar Advocate said in his petition.

“They got bail from the court but again were apprehended by the CIA staff without any warrant and crime only to investigate without any proper law. This practice continues for many years in Vehari and people are facing the police brutality and rascality without any accountability,” said Masood Advocate.

No department of police has authority to take a person without a charge into the custody. CIA staff is working without any fear of law and jeopardising the people for their vested interests, he added. He requested to honourable sessions court to restrain the police from misusing power to save innocent people from the traditional behaviour of police.

When contacted, DSP Imran Rasheed said that the job of CIA is not to detain the people or get FIR registered. “CIA is a department liable only for crime detection,” he said.
