LAHORE - Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Liaqat Baloch has said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his team are responsible for the present crisis and the key to the solution was also with them.

Addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club yesterday, he said if the PM picked up courage even now and announced the Judicial Commission, the whole thing would be on track.

The JI leader said that PM Nawaz and his team did not attach any importance to the Panama leaks issue but now they were upset and did not know how to satisfy the masses. He pointed out that the premier had addressed the nation twice on the issue and had also addressed the Parliament. The ToRs for the Judicial Commission had also been finalised by the joint parliamentary committee of the government and the opposition, Baloch added. However, he regretted, the result was zero because the government was not sincere to enquire the issue of Panama leaks.

On the occasion, Liaqat Baloch announced the programme of the Jurist Conference being organised by the JI on October 26, to especially discuss the Panama leaks, Jurist Commission, and related issues. The conference would be chaired by the JI amir Sirajul Haq. The speakers will include eminent jurists including SM Zafar, Dr Khalid Ranjha, Abid Hasan Manto, Rashid Ahmed Razvi, Justice (r) Hafiz Abdur Rahman Ansari, Supreme Court Bar Association President Ali Zafar, Lahore High Court Bar Association president, and others.

Liaqat Baloch said that the JI counsel would argue before the Supreme Court bench in the light of the discussion at the Jurist Conference. He said that the opposition was fully agreed on the elimination of corruption.

The JI leader also urged the political parties not to adopt such an attitude as would damage the democratic system and the independence of the judiciary.
