Pemra team bashed by defiant operators

Six cable offices sealed

HAFIZABAD/Gujranwala-A five-member Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) team was thrashed by a cable owner and his accomplices in Khana Bhattian as they sealed his office for operating Indian channels.
On a tip off, the Pemra team headed by Inspector Syed Asad Abbas Kazmi and consisting of Atif Rasheed, Barkaat Hussain and others raided Khana Bhattian and attempted to seal the cable unit of Hameed Ali for operating Indian channels but the unit owner Hamed Ali and his companions tortured them. However, the team sealed the unit and lodged a complaint with the Jalalpur Bhattian police for the registration of criminal case against Hameed Ali and his 39 accomplices.
DIRECTIONS: The district administration has stressed the need for improvement in the functioning of government hospitals, health centres with provision of medicines and better attitude.
During a visit to to the DHQ Hospital, DCO Muhammad Ali Randhawa said that no negligence on the part of doctors and paramedical staff would be tolerated. He stressed a need for improvement in the performance of all the staff including the Medical Superintendent.
He said that those paying no attention to mitigate their suffering have no right to remain on the posts. He advised the doctors and paramedical staff to look after the patients like their own family members. Better performance of a hospital is conditional with the provision of medicines and services, he added.
Meanwhile, the Pemra teams conducted various raids in different areas of the region and sealed five more cable offices for violation of the rules here on Monday.
According to regional manager Khurram Siddique, a total of 65 cable operators were inspected on Monday and five of them found involved in operating the banned Indian channels while application against two persons has been given to the police stations concerned for showing resistance to the Pemra team.
