VEHARI-The people, facing problems due to increase in illegal van, bus and rickshaw stands in the city, demanded action against stands operators and ‘corrupt’ traffic policemen.
The van and rickshaw stands on the city roads are a common practice. Now, the rickshaw owners have also set up illegal terminals in front of GPO Vehari and Bagh Wali Masjid with the coordination of traffic police. The illegal stands covering a large area have particularly sprung up in the vicinities of F block, Club Road, Jinnah Road and Burewala Road.
As a result, the people have to face multiple problems due to walk on the roads and chowk. These van stands are functioning alongside the roads and after every minute a van zooms past the road users putting their lives in danger, said a group of students who were waiting to cross the Burewala Road.
Working ladies are not only facing the traffic jams but also have to suffer the filthy remarks from the drivers seated in the rickshaw and vans.
People demanded that the police should take strict action against the illegal stands to save the general public especially women from traffic jams and insulting remarks of the drivers. Sources revealed that traffic officials get bribe on monthly basis for allowing the illegal rickshaw stands functioning. Traffic police even allowed the handcart encroachments in front of 15 offices and in front of Masjid Bagh Wali.
