Police official killed, BDS personnel injured in twin IED blasts in Peshawar

Peshawar, Pakistan: A police personnel was killed, while a BDS official was injured in twin IED blasts besides roadside where the polio workers were targeted in Daudzai area in Peshawar on Tuesday.

The twin blasts took place near MCA School in Daudzai area in Peshawar on Tuesday, when the first IED device planted by the terrorists exploded as the polio worker team was going from the area. Moreover, the second blast exploded when the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) personal was busy defusing the IED device, leaving a person dead, while another injured.

Police said that the blast device was local and it was planted to target the polio workers during their anti polio campaign.

The body and injured were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) in Peshawar for medico-legal formalities and treatment. The deceased police personal was identified as Nazir, who was on the security duty of polio workers.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (SP) Furqan informed media that two suspects have been arrested from the blast site.

It is pertinent to mention here that the anti-polio campaign has been ongoing across the country, while 62% polio cases have been slashed in 2016 cause of successful anti-polio drive ongoing in country.
