LAHORE -  The homecoming of former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is likely to be delayed again, said the media reports quoting the family sources of the Sharifs yesterday.

Earlier, the former Premier was due to land in Islamabad on October 25 (today) from Saudi Arabia where he is present along with his mother at the moment for the purpose of performing Umra.

The sources did not precisely mention the reason, yet a sudden deterioration in the health state of Begum Kalsoom, now undergoing cancer treatment in London, is being thought to be the reason among the PML-N quarters.

It may be mentioned that Accountability Court Islamabad has called for the appearance of Nawaz Sharif on October 26 in three criminal references filed by NAB against him on the direction of the Supreme Court. The court on previous two successive hearings of the case had indicted the former prime minister in all three references and had summoned the prosecution evidence on October 26. Nawaz Sharif through his counsel had pleaded not guilty in the references. The trial will formally take place from the next date of hearing.

Under the Supreme Court’s direction, trial court has to decide all references within six months ending in the last week of December. The court on the previous hearings had also rejected the pleas of Nawaz Sharif for holding back framing of the charges, staying proceedings with the references and clubbing all three references into one.

Previously, it was announced by Sharifs’ quarters that Nawaz Sharif will come back to face the law. While talking to media in London, Nawaz Sharif had himself expressed his willingness to go back to Pakistan before October 26. However, in the latest situation, chances are bleak about his return and he is likely to fly back to London. Against the media reports, no precise statement has been made by the PML-N and the Sharif family as to the delay in the return of Nawaz Sharif and the actual reasons.
