KARACHI - The visiting patients at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) Tuesday continued to suffer as OPD and other services remained closed due to protest demonstration by employees for release of salaries.

The protest demonstration badly affected patient care in ASH while dozens of schedule surgeries were also postponed. The visiting and admitted patients had to suffer as the outpatients and wards almost remained non-functional due to the protest.

The Outpatient Department or OPD, X-ray and Laboratory remained closed as doctors, paramedical staff and nurses completely boycotted the duties in protest due to delay in release of salaries.

The employees, including doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and other administrative officials, have not been paid salaries of September yet despite the passage of 24th days.

The protesters gathered outside Administration Block and staged a protest demonstration for early release of the salary. They chanted slogans against high-ups of Sindh government and KMC over delay in release of salaries funds.

Senior Director Medical and Health Services, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Dr Muhammad Ali Abbasi, while talking to the media men, said salaries of employees would be deposited in their bank accounts within three days.
