Islamabad - The authorities have had to close down the state-of-the-art National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) mega centre in Blue Area on Tuesday after they received a threat alert.

According to the details, the high-ups at NADRA had received a threat alert suggesting a possible terrorist activity at the centre which caused panic among the staff and high officials.

Mega centre was closed for sine die. A notice was posted on the spot stating that the NADRA office has been closed for an indefinite period due to some technical reasons.  The then Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan had inaugurated the first state-of-the-art NADRA mega centre in Islamabad having a capacity of processing 2000 applicants on daily basis.

The step was taken to facilitate the general public and avoid long queues at the existing facilities. The facility, having a seating capacity of 300 persons and 34 counters were entertaining the general public seeking CNICs, child registration certificate and a family registration certificate in the minimum possible time round the clock.

Furthermore, Secretariat police have booked over 120 students in connection with the recent strike and boycott of classes at Quaid-i-Azam University here in three separate cases.

The students have been booked under section 148, 149, 382, 341, 353 and 186 of the PPC. The accused allegedly attacked police officials, halted university buses, chanting slogans against university administration, etc.

According to the police officials at the Secretariat police station, all the students arrested on Monday in a crackdown were released after their assurance that they will not cause harm to university property and help open the institution.
