Yet another hue was added to the dark gloom in Pakistan when a daughter of this country Dr Afia Siddiqui, a Pakistani neuroscientist being tried in a court in New York, was given the unbelievably long sentence of 86 years in prison. Pakistan government has always maintained that it has excellent friendly relations with America but what good are those relations if Islamabad cannot protect its own citizens? There is, in fact, evidence to suggest that our own government had handed over Dr Afia to the Americans? Its is a matter of great shame for our Foreign Office that they have failed so dismally in pursuing this very serious issue at the diplomatic level. They sold out this poor womans freedom to the colonial masters. -ANUM SUBHAN, Lahore, September 24.
