LAHORE - The Punjab government has accepted the demand of a powerful mafia by waiving off 65 per cent entertainment tax on Indian Films in Pakistan. The powerful mafia, which is supporting Indian films in Pakistan has not only got permission for screening Indian films in Pakistan but has also got entertainment tax waived off even from Indian films. This mafia has convinced Punjab Chief Minster Shahbaz Sharif regarding slashing of 65 per cent tax on Indian films and the notification in this regard is likely to come in a few days. However, the patriotic circles have expressed concerns over this move of the government. They said the government had slashed the entertainment tax on local films to revive the Pakistani film industry, but granting this concession on Indian films was surprising. They said concession of entertainment tax on Indian films will give more benefit to India as compared to local films industry, because now each and every cinema will start screening Indian films instead of local films. The people has expressed deep concern over this step of the government saying that Indian films on one hand will spoil the young generation, on the other hand Indian culture will be promoted in the country. They said that it was acceptable that Pakistani films should be exempted from entertainment tax for the revival of the local film industry but it was strange that Indian films were being exempted from it, which will benefit India and Indian film Industry. The people said that on one side government was imposing flood tax on the masses but on the other hand, the government was slashing entertainment tax on the films of our arch enemy country. The people has appealed to the CM Shahbaz Sharif that the decision should be revoked and the amount collected through tax from Indian films should be spent on the revival of Pakistani films industry.
