LAHORE - Unidentified car-riders gunned down the father and wife of a police inspector here outside Al-Jannat Marriage Hall in Township area in broad daylight on Friday, police said. The cause of the double-murder was yet to be ascertained as the investigators were probing into various aspects of the happening including alleged illicit relations of the police inspector with a woman, possibly among the killers. Eyewitnesses told the police that five people including a woman, who was driving the car, intercepted an auto-rickshaw at College Road in Township area. Two of the gunmen came out of the car, pulled out a woman and an old man from the auto-rickshaw and sprayed them with bullets in broad daylight, creating panic in the locality during rush hours, eyewitnesses said. The police said that Muhammad Yasin, 60, and Shazia Bibi, 31, respectively father and wife of police inspector Ghulam Dastgir sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot while a passerby boy also sustained bullet injuries. He was rushed to Jinnah Hospital, where his condition was reported to be out of danger. Police said that Shazia Bibi along with her father-in-law Muhammad Yasin was coming back after taking her 10-year-old son Ahmed from Punjab School on an auto-rickshaw after the school timing. As they reached near the Al-Jannat Marriage Hall, a black colour car approached them from rear side. The gunmen inside the car opened warning shots to stop the auto-rickshaw but the driver accelerated. They chased and managed to stop the rickshaw. The car-riders fled away from the crime scene after ensuing on-the-spot death of the old man and his daughter-in-law. However, the boy Ahmed survived luckily. It seemed that the killers intentionally did not kill the boy, who witnessed the whole incident. It was pre-planned, a police source close to the investigators, said. The police have removed the bodies to the morgue for autopsy and are investigating with no arrest made so far. The investigators further said that inspector Ghulam Dastgir having bad repute in the department, had developed illicit relations with one Uzma when he was posted as SHO Satu Katla. The former CCPO Lahore suspended him after husband of Uzma appeared before him and produced a video film, showing the inspector with the lady in objectionable condition. Police investigators said that the inspector also tried to convince his seniors that he had tied his knot with Uzma as he had produced marriage certificate (Nikah Nama) before a departmental inquiry committee. The marriage certificate later was established as fake. Police sources said that the inspector used to frequently visit the house of Uzma. Few days ago, Uzma went to residence of Shazia Bibi in Johar Town and exchanged harsh words with her while threatening her of dire consequences. Further investigations were underway till filing of this report.
