ORAKZAI AGENCY - At least 10 militants were killed and their two hideouts were also destroyed by shelling in Orakzai Agency on Saturday. According to details, the forces, backed by jet fighters and gunship helicopters, shelled the positions of militants at Dabori, Ali Khel, Mamozai and Mula Khel areas. As a result, 10 militants were killed in the action. The security forces also destroyed two hideouts of the militants and a vehicle. So far, hundreds of militants have been killed and many more got injured in the operation against insurgents in Orakzai Agency. The government has claimed the 90 per cent area of the Orakzai Agency has been cleared from the militants but despite all, the militants occasionally carry out attacks on forces or plant remote control devices to target them. Agencies add: Top Taliban commander Jamaluddin, alias Janat Gul, was killed in a shootout with police in Akora Khattak area Friday. Officials said on a tip-off, police raided the area of Akora Khattak but faced strong resistance from the slain commander. They said police killed the accused after a 30-minute shootout. Two hand grenades, a Kalashnikov, bullets and a charger were also recovered. Jamal, a resident of Kohat, was wanted to the police for his involvement in a bomb attack in Kohat. He was also blamed for the last month attack on police in Peshawar to rescue two of their commanders Zaqeem Shah and Nadeem Abbas. Police said Jamaluddin was also involved kidnapping for ransom to run TTP affairs. He came to the area to kidnap an important personality for ransom, the police said. He was also accused of providing logistic support to members of the banned outfit. Meanwhile, the security forces have claimed killing of eight militants and injuring scores of others in air attacks in Tirah valley of Sairai area, tehsil Jamrud, sub-division of Khyber Agency on Saturday. Official sources said that the security forces warplanes targeted suspected strongholds of the militants including the residence of a militant commander, Janes Khan. Three hideouts of them were demolished in the attack. However, local and other independent sources could not confirm it and said that a woman and a minor girl sustained injuries in the air strikes.
