ISLAMABAD (APP) - The Pakistan Railways (PR) is considering a proposal to hire locomotives from different countries in order to normalize its operations which have been badly affected due to break down of most of the locomotives. According to an official of the Railways Ministry, PR was currently facing acute shortage of locomotives resulting in delay of passenger trains on major routes and suspension of operation on small stations. He said that a proposal was under consideration to hire locomotives from India, which would be finalized after getting approval of the government. He said that a comprehensive action plan in this regard had already been approved by a high-level meeting chaired by Railways Minister Ghulam Ahmad Bilour. The official said that the proposal had been discussed with Indian authorities, who had shown their interest in the matter. However, he added that it was not final to get locomotives from India as they might be purchased from any other country depending on the terms and conditions of rent agreement.
