NOWSHERA - A key commander of the defunct Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was killed on Saturday in a grand operation jointly carried out by police and security forces at Akora Khattak in district Nowshera, police said. Jamal-u-Din alias Qari Basit was the TTPs prominent commander, was involved in providing logistic support and funding to members of the TTP. They said that police high-ups had received information that TTP commander Basit would enter Tarkhel, a mountainous area at Akora Khattak. The local police cordoned off all the leading routes by deploying more forces men. However, at midnight militants opened fire at the police mobile van. As a result, a police constable received minor wounds. The police and security forces retaliated and the exchange of fire lasted for about half an hour. After the stoppage of the firing, the police carried out a search operation and found a dead body. An ID card and some documents were recovered as a result of body search.
