The opening of newly built 54-bed emergency block of Multan Institute of Cardiology has got delayed because of contractor’s failure to supply oxygen.

Hospital sources disclosed that the emergency block was scheduled to become functional many months before but the hospital administration failed to open it to the patients because of contractor’s delaying tactics. Sources further revealed that the contract to supply oxygen to the hospital was granted to a private company titled Total Technology against Rs8.6 million. “Whenever the hospital administration contacts the company, they give them a new date for oxygen supply,” sources added.

It may not be out of place to mention here that thousands of patients come to the MIC from all parts of South Punjab and adjoining areas of Sindh, KPK and Blochistan provinces every week. However, hundreds of them have to return to their homes without treatment as they are refused admission in the hospital because of shortage of space.

Sources further revealed that the hospital management had accomplished all arrangements for opening the ward many months back. “The beds were donated by philanthropists while all other requirements were also fulfilled by the hospital administration, but the ward cannot be made functional because of non-availability of oxygen,” sources added.
