LAHORE - A full court of the Lahore High Court yesterday vowed to hold sesquicentennial celebrations with fervour and zeal.

Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah held the meeting which was attended by all 47 LHC judges. Shah said that besides being a milestone, the main purpose of holding sesquicentennial celebrations is to reach out a common man being the ultimate beneficiary of system of administration of justice and to demonstrate that a competent and functional judiciary is there to dispense justice to the masses.

He said all the events which would take place during the celebrations would enable a common man to understand the past, present and future of the judiciary in Punjab. The Bar Associations of Punjab would also participate fully in the course of celebrations to make the same a success, the CJ added.

The sesquicentennial celebrations of the Lahore High Court would commence from Nov 1 when an opening ceremony would be held at the LHC Principal Seat whereby a sesquicentennial flag would be hoisted at the LHC and ceremonial release of pigeons and balloons would take place.

The LHC would also hold Art and Literature Contents including Photography Contest, Oil Painting Contest, Essay Writing Contest, Children Paintings Contests and Old Photographs Competition. These contests would ensure the participation of educational institutions of the country in the celebrations.

The target date for submissions would be Oct 30th, after which an exhibition would be held in the following month. The persons submitting best pieces of art would be given prizes at the final conference to be held on Dec 10th.

Besides that, there would be held 150th Anniversary Symposiums during the month of November at each of the benches of LHC.

Also, the districts judiciary in Punjab would reach out to common people by holding conferences /seminars whereby participation of all factions of the society would be ensured.

In order to familiarise the schoolchildren with the working of courts, the district judiciary would also organise tours of the school children. The district judiciary events would take place on 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th of November.

Similarly, the LHC would hold a fest on 26th of November and 3rd of December which would include holding of talk shows regarding Jurisprudence of the Court, Reminiscing the Court, Stalwarts of the Court, Environment and the Courts, Serving the Court and Future of the Court.

The Lahore High Court would also organize exhibitory cricket matches during the Cricket Festival. A Coffee Table Book would also be launched in the first week of December, 2016 which would reflect the History of the LHC, its Architecture, Stalwart Judges, historical judgments and the future vision.

Also, a museum/exhibition would be arranged in the first week of December, 2016 presenting the antique documents and artefacts relating to Lahore High Court.

Finally, a 150thAnniversary Conference would be held on 10th of December, 2016 which would be attended by a large number of dignitaries from across the country.

All the Judges of the Lahore High Court showed the resolve to make the celebrations a successful event. Later in the day, the Chief Justice also formed as many as seventeen committees consisting of Judges of the LHC in connection with the sesquicentennial celebrations.
