MULTAN-Speakers at a workshop on Saturday stressed the need for promoting gender equality in the society for a prosperous and progressive Pakistan, saying gender based violence and discrimination had no justification and should be stopped with iron hands
The Capacity Building of Brick Kiln Workers on Gender Equality workshop followed by Eid Milan Party was held by Justice and Peace Commission-MSLCP.
Speaking on the occasion, former provincial minister Haji Ehsan Uddin Qureshi, JPC official Hyacinth Peter, Trainer Saima Ali and others pointed out that gender inequality was a very serious issue which existed in all spheres of life. “But we can’t live with gender inequality long therefore serious efforts are required to end inequality,” they added.
They stressed upon the government to play its part by making policies, laws as well as their proper implementation while people should change their attitude and start to give respect to each other. They said that the brick kiln female workers worked at kiln and at home but still they face discrimination and violence. “Female brick Kiln workers start their work from dawn and keep working till dusk but in return receive nothing. They face sexual harassment, no or low wages of their work, poor health conditions and no respect from their men and owners,” they regretted.
Other Speakers included Ayub Sajid, Fr Naveed Imran, Rana Irfan, Ather Jahania, Naeem Haroon, Hafzeeba Iftikhar, Fiaz Amin, Azmat Hidayat, Razia Eric and Mukhtar Sabir who also presented Eid Wishes to brick kiln workers.
