LARKANA - While terming education and development of human resources as the prerequisites for the survival of any nation, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that terrorism and extremism can only be wiped out by modern technology and education. He was addressing the 17th Parents Day at Cadet College Larkana on Saturday. Prime Minister was accompanied by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Federal Minister for Labour and Manpower Syed Khursheed Shah, MNA Faryal Talpur and others. He said due to the poverty and lack of basic education poor people send their children to religious seminaries. Therefore, providing quality education to the children could prevent extremism, he added. The Prime Minister said the present govt was making efforts to introduce new education policy, so as to keep pace with the modern world. He said ensuring quality education was the only way leading to develop a nation, adding, that the top priority of the government was to emphasise on education and health, that is why, both ministers belonged to Sindh. Prime Minister Gilani said Multan is 5000 year-old ancient city like different cities of Sindh and his forefathers had established several educational institutions including Nishtar Medical College, Gilani Law College, Anjuman-e-Islamia Multan and others. Gilani highlighted Larkana as a the city of martyrs like ZA Bhutto and his daughter Benazir Bhutto who sacrificed their lives for democracy and rights of down-trodden people of Pakistan. He said PPP stands for peace and prosperity and present govt is implementing the party manifesto being the dream of ZA Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, which would be done in letter and spirit. The Prime Minister also announced a grant of Rs 150 million for the college including 0.5 million for the library and Rs 2 million for establishing Shaheed Benazir Bhutto archives. Earlier, Principal Cadet College Larkana SM Yousuf highlighted the achievement of College and apprised the Prime Minister about the problems of the college. After his arrival, the Premier Gilani also reviewed the parade and change of Champions Flag with the march past. Later on, Prime Minister Gilani distributed trophies, shields, medals and cash prizes among the cadets and staff of the college. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani while launching the Award Internship Ceremony under the National Internship Programme by the Youth Affairs department here at Circuit House Larkana has said that the new youth policy has been submitted to the provinces for future development skills and more than 460 youth are receiving stipend under the national Internship Programme. Gilani said Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had started the programme for the youth of country to train them in different disciplines so that to stand on their own feet. He said there were various institutions like NAVTECH and others working for the human resource development in country. The youth after training would be provided with overseas job opportunities. He said the womenfolk were receiving subsidy benefit of Benazir Income Support Programme, while health policy cards would also be issued for their empowerment. He recalled that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had gifted the unanimous 1973 Constitution, which was acceptable to all political parties and it was a responsibility and liability to the PPP to protect the Constitution. He said Benazir Bhutto wanted a new vision and complete development in every sector and in this regard she had started economic development process in the right direction. The Prime Minister said present govt was working on war footing basis to make all-out efforts to end loadshedding. He vowed to establish writ of govt for ensuring peace and stability while terrorism, militancy and extremism would be rooted out from the country. It was the duty of state to protect the lives and property of common man, he added. He also said the labour colonies would be established throughout country. In this connection, 1000 flats were planned in Larkana for accommodate the workers, he added. He said the Larkana would be a model district in country and the roads and other infrastructure would be developed accordingly. Prime Minister said the PPP was a movement and would fight the war of people and continue the efforts of Benazir Bhutto. Earlier, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani visited the tombs of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto and others. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Federal Minister for Labour and Manpower Syed Khursheed Shah and Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro were also present on the occasion. They offered fateha and laid floral wreath on the graves of martyrs.
