LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said we will have to ensure provision of social and economic justice for our own existence and brighter future of the country and have to take such steps rapidly, which the nation expects from us. He was addressing a briefing meeting held regarding reforms in various departments for provision of immediate and cheap justice to the people at Chief Ministers Secretariat, here on Saturday. Quaid of Pakistan Muslim League-N Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif especially attended the meeting. Provincial Ministers, MNAs, MPAs, heads of the committees constituted for reforms in various departments, besides Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, Chairman P&D and other concerned senior officers were also present on the occasion. Shahbaz Sharif said great reforms in the obsolete and paralysed system are need of the hour and a number of committees have been constituted in this regard. He said that we would have to evolve a course of action jointly for coping with the challenges being faced by the country and for finding out a practicable solution of the problems. He said that short and medium term steps are being taken for providing immediate relief to the common man. Shahbaz Sharif said that the system of the country has been paralysed during the last six decades and now every sector has reached at the verge of destruction. He said that although a large number of policies were formulated for the welfare of the people and development of the country during the last 62 years but these were never implemented due to which common man is seeking justice and facing serious problems. He said that tall claims were made in the past for changing the Thana Culture but practically nothing was done and today the situation is that police stations have not only become the den of corruption but common man is feared to go to police stations for seeking justice. He said that we will have to take steps on emergent basis for the rehabilitation of this ruined system and elected representatives and bureaucrats will have to play their effective role for the welfare of the people. He said that Punjab government has raised salaries of subordinate judiciary three hundred times for provision of prompt justice to the people so that they could perform their duties in an environment free from economic problems. He said that performance of prosecution department is also being improved. He said that the Taskforce headed by Justice (r) Khalil-ur-Rehman has made solid recommendations for judicial reforms which will be helpful for improving the performance of subordinate judiciary and ensuring provision of justice to the common man. He said that setting up of complaint cell in each department is being considered in the light of the recommendations of the Taskforce where hard working and service spirited youth will be appointed. He said that similarly effective steps are being taken for elimination of crimes like cattle and water theft, monitoring of police, change of Thana Culture, computerisation of revenue record and panchait system. He also constituted a committee for giving final shape to the recommendations of the Taskforce, which will submit its report within 48 hours. Shahbaz Sharif said the Punjab government is taking revolutionary steps for the welfare of the poor people of the province and it has ensured provision of roti for Rs.2 to the poor and deserving people and a separate authority headed by MNA Muhammad Hanif Abbasi has been established in this regard. He said that this is the first project of public service in the history of the province and Chief Secretary and government machinery has made it successful through hard work and spirit and now this welfare project will be expanded with the cooperation of mohallah tandoor committees, civil society and kind hearted people. He told that seven instalments of Rs.7.46 billions have been released to about 15 lakh deserving people under food stamp scheme so far and a programme is being evolved for providing technical education to the children of two lakh families benefiting from this scheme. He further told that Punjab Educational Endowment Fund set up with an amount of Rs.2 billion is another revolutionary step of the Punjab government and scholarships are being given to 5000 brilliant students from this fund. The Chief Minister told that full attention is being paid for provision of medical facilities to the common man and besides free dialysis in all district and tehsil headquarters hospitals, free medicines are also being provided in the hospitals whereas air-conditioners and generators will be provided at a cost of Rs.2.25 billion in all district and tehsil headquarters hospitals by May 15. Nawaz Sharif, while appreciating the steps taken by the Punjab government for the welfare of the poor people, said the service to the masses is the manifesto of the PML-N. Commenting upon countrys situation, he said that the country is passing through a critical phase and he has given a proposal to the Prime Minister for convening a national conference in the best interest of the country and the nation in which elimination of extremism, provision of immediate justice to the people, controlling unemployment and other issues should be discussed.
