KARACHI – Continuous prolong power outages are overwhelming people and their patience level, and the recent show was witnessed on Wednesday when angry mob set a local office of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) on fire in Lines Area. According to detail, the angry residents of Lines Area and Khudadad Colony marched towards the KESC office located in the Tariq Road area and attacked the office. The protestors stormed the office, damaging to KESC property including computers and other equipment, and later set it on fire. On their way to the office, the protestors also burnt tyres and pelted with stones on the passing vehicles. They later blocked the Shahrah-e-Quaideen which caused severe gridlocks in the surrounding areas while heavy contingent of police reached the spot and baton charged and fired tear gas shells to disperse the protestors.Meanwhile, KESC spokesman Amir-ur-Rehman said that only two PMTs of the location were defaulters of Rs18.5 million while only 18 percent recovery was being made. He said that such tactics would not work this time around, adding that the electricity supply would not be restored till payment of bills. He said the mob during the protest damaged the whole office, vehicles, motorbikes, computers, record and also set furniture on fire. The invaders took almost half an hour to damage the building.He further informed that the KESC staffers have taken all possible measures in last three weeks to improve recovery but all went in vain. Bills with easy instalments have been provided to them at their door steps, even on Sunday but no response came from the residents. Further, it was observed that due to unavailability of water in the area, the mob got charged.However, power supply to the said areas was not restored till filling of this report.
