Former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Asma Jahangir on Thursday said that Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has right to submit review petition in the court on the verdict against him. Talking to media persons in the Lahore High Court premises, she said that the prime minister can perform his duty until the court gives its final decision on the review petition filed by PM in the Supreme Court. Criticising the court verdict against the PM, she said that the Supreme Court should think before giving its verdict against the PM because bad impression would go to international community who would consider Gilani as convicted Prime Minister of Pakistan. Asma Jahangir said that the court should focus on problems facing the common man in the country as inflation, unemployment and other crises should be addressed but the court was hearing cases of politicians on daily basis and key issues of the country were being ignored. She said that it was unfortunate that if any case against politician was moved in the Supreme Court that was heard on daily basis but a dictator was supported for straightening his government, adding that so far no action against any dictator was taken in the country. She said that after conviction, resignation from the PM was demanded but from a dictator who violated the constitution the resignation was not demanded. Former SCBA president said that justice should be equally provided to poor people as her father and Faiz Ahmed Faiz were imprisoned in the jail for seven years but no justice was provided to them yet.
