LAHORE - The ruling party, PML-N, in a crushing defeat to its major political rival PTI has won the race for the crown of Cantonment Board local bodies in the provincial capital by grabbing 15 out of 20 wards (seats) of the two boards, leaving only 5 wards for the tsunami followers.

The elections for the local bodies in two boards of the provincial metropolis - Lahore Cantonment Board and Walton Cantonment Board - held on Saturday in 10 each wards of the two boards in which PML-N has succeeded in defending its stronghold.

The PML-N secured nine wards of the Walton Cantt Board leaving only a single ward for the PTI, while in Lahore Cantt Board it secured six wards and PTI grabbed four wards.

These polls have clearly set the voters’ trend for local bodies polls in other parts of Punjab scheduled for September.

All the political observers were expecting real fight between the PML-N and PTI but they had not predicted, even for a chance, a knockout for the tsunami followers.

According to unofficial results of the Walton Cantonment Board received till filing of this report, PML-N’s Ashfaq Ahmed won from ward 1 by securing 3032 votes; Qari Hanif bagged 2942 from ward 2; Faqir Hussain won ward 4; Akram Sohal won ward 5; Chaudhary Sajjad ruled ward 6 with 4116; Chaudhary Tahir Hameed won ward 7 with 3044; Raja Noor Subhani, ward 8; Sheikh Munir, ward 9; while Mian Khalid Ahmed scored 3236 votes from ward 10.

PTI’s Faisal Hakim grabbed only the ward 3 for his leadership.

In Lahore Cantt Board, PML-N’s Shahid Sheikh won from ward 1, Ebad Qureshi ward 2, Rana Tanvir ward 7, Rashid Hussain Sindhu ward 8, Naeem Shahzad Bhatti ward 9, Rana Muhammad Jaffar ward 10.
