Punjab Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Director General Farooq Hameed Sheikh inspected various wheat procurements centres and took strong exception to delay in the distribution of gunny bags at Rind Adda centre, 10-km away from here on Saturday.

As per details, the Punjab chief minister has nominated EPA DG Farooq Hameed Sheikh as In-charge of wheat procurement in district DG Khan.

Addressing the farmers at Rind Adda Centre, the EPA DG said that distribution of gunny bags had been started across the district, adding that 70 percent target of gunny bags distribution would be achieved in next 15 days. He said that the Punjab government would purchase every grain of wheat from farmers and wheat procurement would be completed in stipulated period in a transparent and fair manner. He declared that supply of gunny bags to farmers without any discrimination was the top most priority of the government and no negligence would be tolerated in this regard.

ADC Mehboob Ahmed, DFO Muhammad Ahsan Cheema, DO Environment Protection Sarfraz Anjum, DO Enterprises Shafiq Ahmed Khosa, DO Social Welfare-cum-Centre Coordinator Rinda Adda Farooq Ahmad, DO Water management Khadim Hussain Khosa, Naib Tehsildar Malik Atta Ullah, Food Inspector Hassan Javid, Bashir Ahmed and other officials concerned were also present on the occasion.

District Food Controller Muhammad Ahsan Cheema briefed the EPA DG and said that 96,000 metric tonnes of wheat would be procured in the district and to achieve the target, 960,000 gunny bags would be distributed among farmers at the ratio of eight gunny bags per acre of land. Nine procurements centres have been established across the district including four centres in tehsil DG Khan, three centres in tehsil Taunsa Sharif and two centres in Kot Chutta.

Later on, the EPA DG visited fruits, vegetable and meat markets situated at Railway Pully and Saddr Bazaar where he inspected prices of daily-use items.
