ISLAMABAD - To further whip up the party for upcoming general elections, former prime minister and PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif has worked out a plan to hold interactive sessions with the party’s local bodies’ leaders.
According to the plan given by the party, Nawaz Sharif would be holding meetings with local bodies leaders and parliamentarians from Rawalpindi and Sargodha divisions today(Monday) while on April 27 he would be holding interactive sessions with the basic tier leadership of the party from Faisalabad and Gujranawala divisions. A session with local bodies’ leaders from Multan and Bahawalpur divisions would be held on April 30.
Sources in the party informed that the plan was devised to engage the party activists at the grassroots level in electioneering. Their direct contact with party’s Quaid would definitely electrify the workers, they added.
These sources said that the interaction of Nawaz Sharif with MPs and local level workers and activists of the party would dispel the impression of Nawaz Sharif’s life time disqualification as the party leaders during their interaction with the party’s local leadership used to give impression that after winning the elections all this would be reversed.
By fully participating in the party’s activities, Nawaz Sharif was giving the impression that he could not be sidelined and he would continue play a proactive role in the national politics and that he would still be calling the shots in the PML-N despite doling out the party’s presidentship to his younger brother Shahbaz Sharif.
Nawaz Sharif would be starting his interactive session with party workers and Parliamentarians from Rawalpindi Division and most likely Ch. Nisar Ali Khan, the leading PML-N leader from Rawalpindi would unlikely attend the meeting as the differences between Nawaz Sharif and Nisar could not be resolved despite several attempts made by PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif.
Sources said that the way Nawaz Sharif was actively participating in the political activities the newly-appointed party head Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif would unlikely get hold on the party affairs as still Nawaz Sharif was a de facto head of the party and from top to bottom the party was looking toward him for directions.
The fresh move of holding interactive sessions with the local tier party leadership would further strengthen the grip of Nawaz Sharif on the party affairs, political analysts commented, adding the move would further make Shahbaz Sharif irrelevant as the party chief, who could not leave any impression after assuming charge of party presidentship.
Sources in the party further informed that interestingly Shahbaz Sharif was kept out of the loop while making such policy decisions and after finalising the plan he would just be intimated.
Previously at the time of Senate elections, the whole gambit seemed revolving around Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif was nowhere on political canvas.
Political analysts commenting on the situation said that it was yet not clear whether Shahbaz Sharif was himself keeping him aloof to all what was happening on the party front or he was kept out of it under a well thought out strategy.
Political analysts were convinced that the fresh move of Nawaz Sharif to engage the party workers and leaders at basic tier would further strengthen his grip on the party affairs and all those who were thinking that he(Nawaz Sharif) would become irrelevant in the party politics after his lifetime disqualification were proven wrong.
