Supporting girls Footballers

Lahore: Global ice-cream brand has signed an official agreement with the Gilgit-Baltistan Girl Football League (GB-GFL) for promoting girls playing football professionally in the region.

The GB-GFL is an initiative that was taken by two teenaged sisters Karishma Inayat and Sumira Inayat in 2016 to develop and run a football league solely for young girls between the ages of 12-16 from the Gilgit-Baltistan region. The first tournament of GB-GFL took place in July 2017 and received a very encouraging response despite being organized with limited resources. 8 teams participated in the week-long tournament after being trained at an exclusive camp set up prior. The GB-GFL is now working on the 2018 tournament which will be taking place in Chipurson (northern Hunza region).

The brand will be donating 10/- PKR to GB-GFL from the sale of each ice-cream scoop. The brand has frequently lent their support to independent local football teams across the world by donating generously, hosting charity events and fundraisers.

On the occasion, Moaaz Bukhari said “It is definitely an honor and pleasure for us to sign up with the GB-GFL. Story of Karishma and Sumaira inspired us a lot and we believe that empowerment for women can be achieved by participation in sports.”

Karishma Inayat said “We are overwhelmed by our partnership with a global brand. We think that this arrangement will go a long way in the development of this sport in Gilgit Baltistan which is currently lacking basic facilities like football pitches, coaching and education.”
