Security arrangements finalised for Ramazan

ISLAMABAD - Elaborate security arrangements have been finalised for Ramazan here at a high level meeting on Monday aimed to protect the life and property of citizens during the holy moth. Chief Commissioner Islamabad Hamid Ali Khan chaired the meeting, which was also attended by Deputy Commissioner Amer Ali Ahmed, SSP Captain (Retd) Ahmad Latif, Additional Deputy Commissioner Rana Akbar Hayat, SP West Dr Moeen Masood, Deputy Director Auqaf, ICT and ulema belonging to all schools of thought. The chief commissioner informed the ICT administration and Islamabad police have made fool proof security arrangements for Ramazan and in this connection a control room with telephone No-9261504 has been set up in the office of Deputy Commissioner to coordinate and supervise the security arrangements in close coordination with the mosque committees. He also informed that special security arrangements were in place aimed to avert any untoward incidents at the sensitive worship places. Hamid Ali Khan also described special security arrangements have been made for the last Ashra of Ramazan-ul- Mubarak. He maintained that police had enhanced patrolling in Capital Territory to ensure safe environment for the citizens. "Metal detectors will be provided to the mosque committees for checking purpose," he added. The ulema assured their full cooperation to the administration for maintaining peace and strengthening security arrangements for mosques and Imambargahs. A Code of Conduct for the security of worship places was also agreed upon in the meeting. According to the code of conduct, it was decided that only one gate of the worship places would be kept opened. Mosque committees would be activated to ensure the internal security of the worship places and 5 to 6 volunteers would be deployed by the mosque committees to ensure the checking and search of the persons through metal detectors. Mosque committees would also deploy private security guards at the worship places. It was also decided that Islamabad police would also launch a special drive against professional beggars and would not allow gathering of beggars outside the worship places. Loudspeakers would be used according to the law. ulema would preach messages of unity and religious harmony in the Friday sermons. It was also decided that CDA would ensure the cutting of bushes around the worship places before the advent of Ramazan and would also ensure proper lights outside the worship places. Mosque committees would also ensure emergency lights in the wake of loadshedding. ICT Administration and police have also directed the property dealers to furnish the particulars of tenants to the concerned SHOs in their respective areas. It was also decided that mosque committees would also furnish the list of faithful sitting in Aitikaf during the last ashra. SSP Captain (Retd) Ahmad Latif informed that all the SHOs have been directed to remain in contact with the mosque committees of their areas round the clock and extend full cooperation to them with regard to beefing up security of worship places. He further informed that additional police contingents would be deployed at the sensitive places.
