ISLAMABAD - PML-N will field former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqui, as its party candidate for the presidential slot against PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari. This was announced by PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif in a press conference here on Monday. Nawaz Shairf said that he named Chief Justice (R) Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqui as his party's candidate for the presidential election and added that PML-N would launch his election campaign. He said, "The former Chief Justice is a well-known personality who is above party lines and is most suitable to occupy the office of President at a time when the country needed cohesion to tackle serious problems confronting it. Nawaz Sharif further said the nation would be happy and feel proud on his nomination. He said that Siddiqui would not take any unconstitutional step and defend the constitution whereas the former President subverted the constitution and rule of law. The PML-N leader said Saeeduz Zaman had refused to take oath under PCO when General (R) Pervez Musharraf was at the climax of his power. Online adds: Justice (R) Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqui said PML-N was the only party in Pakistan's history who took a firm and clear stance for the restoration of judiciary. "Now its our collective responsibility to work for the betterment of Pakistan and should review our current policy regarding FATA and NWFP, if we want to bring harmony and peace in the country," he added. Earlier in a collective meeting of PML-N CEC and Parliamentary Party Raja Zafarul Haq, Sir Anjaam Khan, Secretary Information Ahsan Iqbal, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, Zafar Iqbal, Ch Nisar Ali, Ishaq Dar and other party leaders said four months were enough for PPP to fulfil the promises but now it had become "unfeasible" to continue with the coalition.
