KARACHI - Major General Bilal Akbar, Director General, Pakistan Rangers - Sindh has suggested a joint CPLC and Rangers Special Task Centre (RSTC) under which the two, keeping their identity intact, may work together closely to curb crime and help Karachiites live and work in a peaceful environment.
During his visit, along with Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP - Karachi), Mushtaq Mehar to Citizens - Police Liaison Committee’s (CPLC), Central Reporting Cell, Sindh Governor’s Secretariat, he appreciated the efforts and contribution of the committee towards the society. CPLC’s successful liaison with law enforcement agencies (LEAs) was particularly appreciated by the DG Rangers - Sindh and AIGP - Karachi, said CPLC sources on Tuesday.
Major General Bilal Akbar also appreciated the map developed by the CPLC to trace crime patterns and reiterated need for concerted efforts to identify crime hot-spots followed by joint patrolling by Police and Rangers in identified localities. He said the CPLC enjoys a good reputation amongst the citizens and LEAs and that people trust the committee for its efforts in assisting victims of crimes during last two and half decades. On the occasion, CPLC Chief Zubair Habib shared with the Director General Rangers and AIG-P, Karachi problems faced by the CPLC in its Neighborhood Care Projects, mainly due to removal of barriers, on which Major General Bilal Akber assured the CPLC that decision will be taken on case to case basis. The CPLC chief said Neighborhood Care Projects were presently underway at 21 different locations in Karachi and Hyderabad while several other public service schemes as CPLC schools, public toilets, free dispensaries were also functional in the metropolis. He also requested AIGP - Karachi to provide police force for guarding Neighborhood-Care Projects operating under the umbrella of CPLC. He said this was essential for the success of the project. Zubair Habib explained in detail the working of CPLC, its infrastructure, organisational structure and success achieved by CPLC during the last 25 years, in particular context of solving kidnapping for ransom cases besides handling matters related to extortion, lost/runaway persons and street crimes.
AMIR KHAN CASE SHIFTED TO OTHER COURT
The hearing of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Amir Khan’s case was shifted to another court on Tuesday due to distrust shown by the Rangers law officer. During the hearing, Rangers law officer expressed distrust on the court for granting bail to the accused. The judge shifted the case to court number 7 of Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC).
Talking to the media after hearing, Amir Khan stated he will return to Pakistan after performing Haj as there are several cases against him filed in the High Court. MQM leader further told that Altaf Hussain has sent good wishes for injured Rashid Godil.
