LAHORE - Christian community celebrated Christmas with religious fervour and solemnity on Thursday while main service was held at Dominic Church here. A large number of people belonging to Christian community participated in the service. The X-mas celebrations commenced with largely attended mid-night mass were held at the main churches followed by morning services. Special services were also held at main churches with special prayers for the well-being of humanity, integrity and solidarity of the country. Punjab government has declared December 26(today), as additional holiday for the Christian community on the occasion of Christmas. The police had made elaborate security arrangements outside the churches and other places of Christmas festivity. The members of the community decorated their homes with traditional X-mas trees and star. They held feasts at homes and gifts were presented to children as well as family members. Christmas carol competitions among teams consisting of youths from various Churches marked the day's celebrations. A large number of people also thronged to city Zoo and parks to enjoy the celebrations in a sunny day. The children were more enthusiastic and overwhelmingly happy in the company of their parents. The X-mas celebrations started a week earlier with X-mas tree parties for children who were presented gifts by traditional Santa Claus while congregational dinners also held at various churches.
