FPCCI elections to start from December 31

LAHORE - The biennial election of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), the apex body of chambers and traders, for the years 2009-2010, will commence from December 31 instead of December 26 and complete on January 31 next. The annual elections of all chambers of commerce and industries and affiliated trade bodies across the country had already been completed. Co-chairman Businessmen Panel, the ruling group in FPCCI, and Vice President SAARC CCI Pakistan chapter Iftikhar Ali Malik told APP here Thursday that presidential candidate for the top slot of FPCCI from Sindh province for the next term, will be named with consensus in true democratic manner. He said a high level committee comprising senior trade leaders will announce the presidential nominee with consensus on merit, keeping in view his professional standing in the private sector. The nominee will be finalised by a committee headed by chairman Businessmen Panel, Tariq Saeed and comprising co-chairman of the Panel, Iftikhar Ali Malik. He said before finalising the name, all senior trade leaders from the province will be taken into confidence and the decision will be made with consensus. Iftikhar Malik asserted that the Businessman Panel which is the largest alliance of traders in the country with 95% majority in the Federation, will sweep the elections in all chambers and federation yet again.
