BHITSHAH - MQM chief Altaf Hussain has warned the government against sending the DG ISI to the United States to appear before a court, saying such an act would mark the governments end. In his telephonic address from London to a huge public meeting organised at Bhitshah in Matiari district on Saturday, Altaf strongly rejected the order of the US court summoning the ISI chief and termed it a conspiracy against the sovereignty of the country and requested the chief justice to summon the bosses of secret agencies of other countries. He also demanded of the US government to release Dr Aafia Siddiqui and send her to Pakistan. The MQM chief also rejected the proposal of imposing the RGST, saying the increasing price hike with acute water shortage and electricity and gas loadshedding had made the life of common man quite miserable. Therefore, he said, he MQM could not support such proposal as was demanded by the world donors agencies. The funds from the donors agencies which were plundered by the feudal lords should be recovered and deposited in the treasury, he demanded, adding f the government wanted to generate revenue, it should impose tax on feudal and land-owing class instead of tightening the noose around the neck of the poor. It is being said that Sindhi-Mohajir clash will entail in case the MQM quits the coalition government. Should we tread this path? he questioned. He said an impression was being created that if the MQM announced separation from the government, there would be riots between Urdu-speaking and Sindhi people, but he maintained, This time round the conspirators will not succeed in their designs as the poor people speaking various languages are fully aware that MQM is struggling for their rights. He said the people were starving and jobless; but the feudal lords had washed the villages away in floods. Altaf said his party was striving for the rights of the poor of the country and those who claimed to be the representatives of Sindh must realise that it was MQM that rejected the construction of Kalabagh Dam, demanded maximum provincial autonomy to provinces and due share of Sindh in the NFC Award. By participating in the public meeting of MQM, Altaf said, the people of Sindh had given their decision that they were against the feudalism. Govts dilly-dallying perturbs MQM; Picture on Page 3
