Arif sinks Navy in Premier League


ISLAMABAD - Ace striker Arif Mehmood with two goals helped Wapda to 2-0 victory against Navy in the 8th Pakistan Premier Football League 2011 here at Jinnah Stadium on Sunday.
Navy struggled throughout the match despite having services of ace striker Nomi and conceded late goals from their much weaker opponents. Navy were favourites before the start of the match and started the match at a whirlwind fashion and put the Wapda defence under immense pressure for the most of the first half that ended 0-0 at breather.
Navy started attacking in the second half also and launched several attacks but Wapda defence stood firm and denied all the Navy advances. When it looked the match was heading towards a draw, Arif Mehmood broke the ice in the 80th minute by scoring a solo goal with a vicious strike, which the Navy goalkeeper was unable to stop, Arif doubled team’s lead in the 82nd minute to put the game beyond the reach of Navy.
After conceding two late goals Navy players bogged down and lost the match 2-0
