Surge in electricity load-shedding has further added to the miseries of poor masses who were already suffering due to gas shortage and other crises.

According to details prolonged and unscheduled loadshedding up to 10 hours was being witnessed in urban areas while the rural areas were the most hit where upto 12 hours of power shut downs were being applied.

Citizens across the country are highly annoyed over power loadshedding in the intense cold weather. They are wondering as to why suddenly the government which had promised upto two hours of power outages in cities and three to four hours in rural areas was victimizing them.

Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) say there is a shortfall of 4,000 MW of electricity as the Sui Northern Gas Pipeline (SNGPL) has shut the supply of gas to four Independent Power Producers (IPPs) while supply of oil has been reduced due to delay in payment of dues by PEPCO to PSO.

The power generation has come down to 8,500 MW and PEPCO is facing a shortfall of 4,000 MW.
