Richard Holbrookes current mission in Central Asia is a matter of concern for Pakistan, China and Russia. According to a report in various newspapers on February 21, American Special Envoy for Af-Pak region is on a weeklong mission to the five Muslim states of Central Asia. Mr Holbrooke has repeatedly said here that Al-Qaida and Taliban could infiltrate the Central Asia and destabilize the entire region. If one were to speculate, his real mission in this tour seems to be support of the network of CIA operatives in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. All these states are rich in oil, gas and other natural resources. The CIA has its presence in Uzbekistan since 1985 when the Americans started their operations here through the Islamic movement of Uzbekistan, which some say, was a brainchild of (the now famous) Charlie Wilson. Al-Qaida was probably established as a second step to that with an Arabic name. Both organizations have no roots in the Muslim society and it is alleged, are directed, financed and operated by the US agencies, CIA, FBI and Blackwater. These organizations are being used for expansion of terrorism in Central and South Asia. Some say the terrorist training camps established by the American and NATO forces in Afghanistan are responsible for spreading terrorism in Pakistan and other neighboring regions. We know the 'prescribed sequence of events in the region since 1978 has always been the same; it is always the CIA first, then Al-Qaida and, then, the US troops. So some say that Al-Qaida is the 'Advance Party of the US occupation forces. -BASHIR HUSSAIN AZAD, Chitral, February 24.
