LAHORE - A mentally retarded paramour Thursday gunned down four persons of the same family, including three women and a minor over marriage dispute, and later committed suicide in Millat Park police precincts. The deceased were identified as Zeenat Razaq, 15, her brother Zainulabidin, 2, her mother Yasmeen Razaq, 40, and her maternal grandmother Gulzaar Bibi, 60. Later the accused, Anees Irfan, 22, resident of Zafar Colony, shot himself to death, the police said. Police investigators revealed Anees barged into the house of Abdul Razaq, Naib Qasid in the provincial Traffic Department, at Islamabad Colony on Thursday at 2pm. He shouted at the family asking it to marry Zeenat to him. Perhaps, the family had flatly refused, which made the accused to indulge in the heinous act of killing four persons, a local said. We started hearing gunshots at about 3pm that lasted for about 18 minutes. My brother called emergency number 15 as soon as we heard the women shouting for help, Razaqs next-door neighbour said. Talking to reporters, Abdul Razaq said unaware of the incident when he came back to his home he found that his family had been murdered. A friend of the accused revealed Anees was interested in marrying Zeenat. He had also proposed her, but her mothers refusal infuriated the youth. He further said Anees visited a psychiatrist numerous times as he was mentally disturbed and was on medicines regularly. A neighbour of the accused said Anees often used to visit Razaqs home. He also alleged Anees had illicit relations with Zeenat and they had eloped a couple of months back. Another neighbour endorsed the same saying the family urged Anees to come back promising they would arrange his marriage with Zeenat. A police investigator said after he came back, the family rebuked Anees for visiting their home. On the day of incident, he entered the home and urged Zeenat to elope with him, but her mother forbade her. On this he killed the whole family, except Abdul Razaq, who was not at home. Talking to The Nation, SP Iqbal Town Ali Nasir Rizvi said it seemed the accused was a drug addict, but nothing could be established prior to the autopsy report. The SP said according to eyewitnesses, Hamza, 12, who hid under the bed and Iqra, 16, who fled away after the accused had gunned down Yasmeen and her mother Gulzar Bibi, Anees entered the home and insisted Zeenat to elope with him. He opened indiscriminate fire on Yasmeen, Gulzar and Zainulabidin and again insisted Zeenat to go with him. On her refusal, he also gunned her down, Hamza told reporters. The SP said after committing the offence, the accused called his own mother and Razaq to inform them about his act. Police, Edhi ambulances and Rescuers 1122 reached the spot. Meanwhile, a rescuer said, Anees shot himself dead fearing the police might kill him. The police also recovered a pistol and three magazines from the crime scene. The bodies had been shifted to the City morgue for autopsy. The police have registered the case, and arrested Aneess brother.
