KARACHI - Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will inaugurate Korangi Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) on Friday (today) here at Korangi. The said plant has a capacity of 220MW power generation and is located in Korangi. The plant would be operated by KESC. The plant consists of four latest, state of the art and high efficiency gas turbines, one steam turbine and other plant equipment. In CCPP, a gas turbine generator generates electricity and the waste heat is used to make steam to generate additional electricity via a steam turbine; this last step enhances the efficiency of electricity generation. The plant consist of 4 state-of-the-art gas turbines of 48.4MW capacity and one steam turbine of 26MW. The total capacity of plant is 220MW at ISO condition. Moreover, the salient features of the plant include the total project investment of Rs16 billion. CCPP is considered as one of the best power generating plant when it comes to output efficiency. Currently the plant is operational and is performing according to design. The installed gas turbines are one of the highest efficiency gas turbines which are internationally recognised. The first two gas turbines were commissioned in November 2008, while the other two gas turbines were commissioned in March 2009 and steam turbine was commissioned in July 2009. Almost 88 Pakistani engineers, technicians and plant operators had an opportunity to get training on the latest technology used in CCPP.
