UPPER DIR – Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Upper Dir, has warned Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) of holding wheel-jam and shutter-down strikes if it did not stop hours long loadshedding in the district.

In a meeting of the party’s Zilli Majlis-e-Shura, JI Upper Dir chief Sahibzada Fasihullah, secretary general Mir Makhzanuddin, former provincial minister Inyatullah , Malak Behran Khan and former district nazim said the excessive load shedding in the district had not only been causing problems to domestic consumers but had also ruined businesses.

“The endless and excessive load shedding coupled with low voltage has destroyed businesses and small industry.

Thousands of workers have been rendered unemployed which is crippling people’s economy,” Fasihullah said. A resolution was also passed in the meeting asking Pesco to end load-shedding immediately.

The meeting warned that JI would stage paralysing strikes in the district to protest the excessive load shedding.

Prolonged load shedding and no attention by Pesco to people’s demands to end it had forced people in July last to jam everything within the limits of the district to protest against Pesco.
