KARACHI - A man accused of “attempting to murder” pushed the complainant down from the second floor of the Sessions Courts’ building on the premises of the City Courts on Saturday, leaving him seriously injured, officials and witnesses said.

Mohammad Arshad was accused of staging a life attempt on Shehzad over a monetary row in the limits of the Boat Basin Police Station last month. A case was registered against him under sections 324 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

“The complainant and accused were to appear before Additional District and Sessions Judge (South) Shahid Hussain Chandio. The complainant was standing outside the courtroom, when the accused pushed him from behind in a bid to eliminate him,” said an official of the City Courts Police Station.

The complainant was badly injured and shifted to the Civil Hospital, where he was stated to be out of danger. “We have lodged a separate case against the accused under Section 324 of the PPC,” added the official.

Trader gunned down: A trader was shot dead in Urdu Bazaar in the Aram Bagh Police precincts. The incident took place at Urdu Bazaar when 28-year-old Shah Zaib Farooqui, son of Mujahid Farooqui was shot at and critically injured by unidentified armed men. He sustained multiple bullets injuries and was rushed to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) where he succumbed to his injuries.

The police sources said that the deceased owns about four shops in Urdu Bazaar and had received an extortion slip of Rs0.5 million a few days ago.  SI Ansar cited eyewitness as saying that 2 armed motorcyclists reached his shop and fired gunshots on him, adding that the deceased had not submit any complaint to the police regarding alleged slips from extortionists.

He said that the police initiated a probe into the incident.
