SAHIWAL - PML-N Ulema Mashaikh Wing Punjab President Pir Imran Shah has said that all major spoken languages in Pakistan must be given national language status.

He was addressing a gathering of winning students of essay writing competition in Punjabi on International Mother Language Day (Feb 21), in a prize distribution ceremony here at Government Comprehensive School the other day.

MNA Pir Imran Shah awarded prizes to 18 winning male and female students in six different categories. The students celebrated their success along with their parents and principals after receiving prizes.

Reportedly, a local civil society organisation, Punjab Lok Sujag, arranged Punjabi essay writing competition among 74 public and higher secondary schools in four districts including Faisalabad, Okara, Bahawalnagar and Sahiwal.

Mahwish of Punjab Lok Sujag informed the media that the organisation received 1,000 essays out of which 18 were selected for top third positions in six categories.

The ceremony started with Ravi Jhumar dance performed by the students and a Punjabi skit titled Ikk Prohbar Akhar, written by Lakhat Pasha and directed by Asif Hoat, was arranged by Punjab Lok Rahs, Depalpur.

Later, a Young Writer’s Conference was also held where essay writing tips were given to the students.

Kashmala Asiq, one of winners from Govt Girls High School, Faisalabad while talking to TheNation said that such kind of creative expression and exposures must be given to students in government schools. Kashmala Asiq wrote winning essay.
