SADIQABAD - Against the law enforcers’ failure in arresting the perpetrators, the lawyers boycotted legal proceedings at Rahim Yar Khan district courts on the Chehlum of the people martyred in terrorist blast near a mourning procession in Khanpur.

The court proceedings remained suspended following an appeal of the Tehsil Bar Association of Khanpur in this regard. On the occasion, the litigants from across the district also participated in the protests for early arrest of the culprits.

Talking to the media representatives, Bar President Sajid Ali Feroz and General Secretary Syed Muhammad Bahu Shah regretted 40 days had elapsed after the tragic incident, but no perpetrators of the incident had so far been arrested.

He also mentioned the failure of the national law-enforcement agencies in tracing the terrorists involved in the killings.

They said that the lawyers were also sad over the irreparable loss of lives like the near and dear ones of the victims and pledged to bring the perpetrators to book.

A homemade bomb had exploded near a Chehlum procession in the central Pakistani town of Khanpur, killing 18 people and wounding 30, according to police officials.

The explosion occurred as mourners were marking the 40th day of mourning the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).

It went off as the mourners came out of a mosque. The bomb appeared to have been planted near an electric pole ahead of time in the path of the procession. Debris was everywhere, and a cloud of dust engulfed us. Many people died on the spot.

FSCD warns farmers: The Federal Seed Certification Department has directed the seed companies across the district Rahim Yar Khan to complete samplings and the lists of their registered farmers by February 29, 2012 to produce certified seed of wheat and cotton.

In a dispatch, FSCD Rahim Yar Khan Deputy Director Muhammad Azam Khan further said that those farmers failed in complying with the orders, would not be allowed to produce certified seed of wheat. He added that a legal action would be taken against the company producing uncertified seed.

DCO inaugurates tree plantation drive: DCO Javed Iqbal Thursday inaugurated tree plantation campaign by planting a sapling here at Government Forest Park on Jhang road.

Faisalabad Division Forest Officer Iqbal Tariq Kathia informed the DCO that 291,000 trees would be planted in the drive.

District Forest Officer Ch Muhammad Arshad said a sapling is available at Rs3 in department’s nurseries of Gojra, Bhaghat and Toba.
