KHYBER AGENCY – A mortar shell landed on a house in the Bara area of the Khyber tribal region, near the Afghanistan border, late on Friday night killing three children and wounding four others.

Sources said that late on Friday night a mortar shell fired by militants from an undisclosed location hit the house of one Mohammad Ali. The roof of rooms caved in after the mortar hit the house and the residents were buried under the rubble, sources said. As a result of which Mohammad Ali’s two daughters identified as Naeema, 3, Sadia, 10, and one-year-old son, Baitullah were killed instantly. Wife of Mohammad Ali, two sons, Mohammad Ayub and Mohammad Zubair and a daughter sustained injuries in the incident, source added.

On Saturday morning, local tribesmen retrieved the bodies and wounded from rubble and shifted them to nearest health centre, sources said. It is important to mention here that similar incidents in the past in Bara have caused loss of many precious lives. The local sources said that militants wanted to target a security checkpost in the area but the mortar shell missed the target and fell on the house.

In tehsil Jamrud’s Wazirdand area, the local administration on Saturday launched an operation clean-up against drug dealers. The administration sources said Khasadar force had demolished 10 centres dealing in drugs and arrested 18 suspects and put them behind the bars in Jamrud, sources said.
