KARACHI - The anti encroachment department of the city government has completely failed to get the land evacuated of the proposed inter city bus terminal at Super Highway where the land grabbers have established fake graves to encroach the precious land. Sources in the city government revealed that due to the political pressure, action was not being taken against the land grabbers. Some land grabbers first encroached the plot of the proposed terminal at Super Highway near Deh Bitti Amri, converted it into graveyard and made few graves overnight, which are believed to be fake graves, eyewitness sources told The Nation. The matter has come into the knowledge of City Nazim Mustafa Kamal, but so far no action has been taken in this regard, sources said. The 45-acre plot in Deh Bitti Amri, situated in Karachi's suburbs at Super Highway, some 20 kilometres away from the central part of the City, had been allocated for the city's main inter city bus terminal, but the plot had been encroached. The CDGK authorities after hectic efforts removed the encroachment from 15 acres, established boundary around the plot to save the land. It may be noted that 30 acres land was still occupied by the land mafia. The 15-acre land was lying vacant for the past few years and a sign board of the inter city bus terminal had been erected at the site. But the CDGK delayed the construction work due to which the land mafia again captured the land and made the issue sensitive this time by establishing graveyard so that the CDGK could be pressurised on religious lines to pre-empt any action. The sources said that the city's administration should find it out whether or not the graves were genuine. Sources said that around 10 graves are being seen inside the boundary of the plot for the past one and a half month, but the CDGK did not take any notice of this illegal activity. Had the former EDO Transport taken action at the right time or informed City Nazim Mustafa Kamal and DCO Karachi Javed Hanif, the site of the project could have been saved from the land grabbers, sources said. In 1995, the 45 acres land in Deh Bitti Amri had been allocated to the defunct Karachi Development Authority (KDA) for the development of an inter city bus terminal at Super Highway. The purpose of setting up this terminal was to save hazards being faced by the buses which enter Karachi through Sohrab Goth. The officials in TCD admitted that inter provincial bus terminal at Super Highway was one of the most important project of CDGK as far as planning of smooth flow of city's traffic is concerned. The CDGK had planned to develop three inter city bus terminals on all three important highways of the City. The first one was at Super Highway, second in Baldia Town, Yousuf Goth for Balochistan-bound buses and third was to be developed at National Highway. But only for Balochistan-bound inter city bus terminal at Baldia Town has been established so far, the other two bus terminals are yet to be developed.
