LAHORE - Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has said that only poor people have right over 'sasti roti' and in this regard a foolproof and rationalised system has been evolved under which after suspending supply of sasta atta to big hotels, this quota is also being given to such tandoors as are selling only roti or they have some pulse or vegetable with roti. This was stated by him while presiding over a high level meeting regarding rationalisation of sasti roti programme, improving administrative affairs and ensuring active role of public representatives in this programme here Sunday. MNA Mian Marghoob Ahmad, Chairman Taskforce Waheed Alam Khan, Additional Chief Secretary, Secretaries Food and Commerce & Investment, Commissioner Lahore and other senior officers were present on the occasion. The Chief Minister said that this step will result in increasing quota of atta for tandoors set up in poor localities and industrial areas for labourers manifold. He said that a uniform system for provision of sasti roti throughout the province is being adopted while elected representatives would also play their active role in this regard. He directed constitution of special committee comprising Senior Minister, Finance Minister and other senior officials headed by Senior Advisor which will determine the responsibilities of elected representatives regarding implementation of sasti roti programme while a special committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary will be responsible for ensuring the implementation of the sasti roti programme throughout the province. He said that public service is his mission and historic programme of provision of sasti roti to the people is also a form of worship. He said that in future green colour atta bags would be provided to tandoors in the whole province and green banners would be displayed outside the registered tandoors having telephone and fax numbers of the authorities concerned so that in case of any complaint, the citizens could immediately contact for the redressal of their complaint. The Chief Minister directed to constitute a special committee headed by Senior Advisor Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa comprising Senior Minister Raja Riaz Ahmad, Finance Minister Tanveer Ashraf Kaira and other senior officers for determining the responsibilities of elected representatives and their active participation in sasti roti Programme. He said solid measures have also been taken to remove the difficulties of tandoor owners. in the new system of provision of sasti roti and now they will not face any difficulty in receiving sasta atta and their time will not be wasted by standing in long queues for receiving the same. He said number of tandoors for provision of sasti roti will gradually be increased to 30,000. throughout the province.
