‘Unregistered marriage certificate may lead to jail’

RAWALPINDI - A lecture on “Importance of Nikah Nama (marriage certificate) Document” was held by Department of Communication and Media Studies in collaboration with Ministry of Human Rights and Minority Affairs at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) here on Wednesday.
On the occasion, Barrister Humaira Massuddin was the chief guest whereas FJWU DCMS Chairperson Dr Shamim Zaidi, lecturers Ayesha Qamar, Shaista Hashmat and a large number of students were also present.
Talking about the importance of nikah nama document, Ms Humaira said that it is a very important document that can save a person from many potential problems if used effectively. She informed the audience that unregistered nikah nama leads to imprisonment. 
Talking about the clauses of the nikah nama she said that point 18 to 21 are very important regarding the rights of women and man. 
Point 18 is about the right of women to divorce. She said that due to traditions people do not like to give this right to women but it is not a big deal.
The religion and our National Law gives the right of Khula to women which cannot be taken away from her. She said that Nikah Nama is a very strong document which can serve as a proof for property transfer that is gifted to women at the time of nikah. Talking about Mehr.
She said that it is a gift of love, devotion and above all a sign of respect from the husband to his wife. She said that marriage is the name of give and take. Always give your best and expect a little lesser.
Sacrifice and compromise are very important and beautiful phenomenon. She said, “Happiness is a matter of choice. If you do not have a rose, plant a garden of roses”.
The lecture was followed by question answer session. FJWU DCMS Dr Shamim Zaidi presented the university souvenir to the honourable guest as a token of appreciation.  Ms Shazia Hashmat gave vote of thanks in the end.
