Multan - Unidentified armed men kidnapped a deputy secretary of National Assembly from Basti Sandela in the limits of Alpa police here on Saturday.
The deputy secretary was identified as Moazzam Kalroo. Police said four armed men kidnapped Kalroo and fled on a white car. Sources said the kidnappers fled towards Muzaffargarh.
Meanwhile, Alpa police have registered a case and started search for the kidnappers.
Agencies add: Police said the deputy secretary was returning from his mango farm in Sandela when four armed men on a motorcycle and a car kidnapped him. Two days earlier, he had arrived from Islamabad.
Following the incident, police blocked the area and a search operation was on.
Police sources said Kalroo's cellphone activity was last detected in the vicinity of Multan's Umerkot area.
Meanwhile, CCO Multan Sultan Chaudhry inspected his area of residence and sought information from his relatives.
Kalroo's uncle told police that his family did not have personal enmity with anyone and that they were engaged in preparations for the upcoming local government (LG) elections.
Police suspected that a gang was responsible for the abduction.
It may be mentioned that Kalroo was kidnapped from NA-151 the same constituency from where former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's son Ali Haider was kidnapped earlier last year.
