ISLAMABAD:Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Friday cancelled Hajj balloting after consulting with legal experts.
New balloting dates would be announced after the decision of the Supreme Court.
According to spokesman, the ministry has decided to challenge Sindh High Court’s order of stopping Hajj balloting in Supreme Court of Pakistan.
It merits mentioning here that the Sindh High Court (Sukkur Bench) had directed the ministry to avoid conducting Hajj balloting till January 31.
While Lahore High Court had also ordered the ministry to stop conducting balloting of 17 percent quota of Government Hajj Scheme.
The petitioner had submitted that under Hajj Policy 2018 private Hajj Group Organisers (HGs) had not been given fair share as 67 percent of the total Hajj quota had been reserved for government Hajj scheme.
