LAHORE - PPP is planning to hold a political rally at Lahore’s Mochi Gate on February 5 though the event is meant to express solidarity with the Kashmiris.

Preparations are underway to make it a big event to set the tone for the election campaign in a City which remains a PML-N stronghold for the last three decades. PPP’s central Punjab leadership is holding meetings with party office-bearers on almost daily basis to make the show a success.

Party cadres in Lahore, Kasur and Sheikhupura have been assigned tasks to bring maximum number of people to Mochi Gate ground which has the capacity to accommodate around 15,000 people.

As the PPP has divided its organisational set up in Lahore into 25 zones, each zonal President has been asked to bring at least 500 people to the venue on that day.

Party Presidents from the adjoining districts of Kasur and Sheikhupura have also been given similar tasks.

PPP’s central Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira made a tall claim the other day that Feb 5 show will prove his party’s popularity in the City.

On Thursday, Kaira said that PPP had started its mass- contact campaign as the elections were getting near.

Talking about party’s Kashmir day rally, he said: “We have to give a befitting answer to Indian Prime Minister Modi and his yaar (friend) in Pakistan that PPP will not let the two leaders forget the Kashmir issue.”

Ch Manzoor said that PPP was a historic party, now going to hold a historic rally on a historic place on an issue which was also historic in nature.

He added that it was PPP’s founder Z.A Bhutto who had declared February 5 as national holiday and also gave a call for countrywide strike which was also observed in AJK at that time.

He also accused the PML-N leadership of putting the Kashmir issue on the back burner and vowed to keep it alive till its resolution.
