Fog revisited plains including Lahore on Friday, disturbing routine life by hampering vehicular movement on inter and intra city routes besides affecting flight operation and schedule of trains.

Lesser duration of sunshine, snowfall over the hills and winds increase chill in weather by decreasing the temperature during the day and at nighttime.

Fog started falling in the evening and become so dense at midnight that the visibility reduced to zero in open areas.

Dense fog caused closure of portions of Motorway at midnight besides hampering vehicular movement on inter and intra city routes including National Highway.

Closure of Motorway caused difficulties for the motorists who left with no other option except to use alternative routes including National Highway. Less visibility also slowed down vehicular speed on National Highway from Kharian to Sukkur. The authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary travelling from midnight to early morning. If unavoidable, use fog lights, drive at slow speed, keep a safe distance and ensure working of wipers.

Low visibility affected normal flight operation at Allama Iqbal International Airport besides disturbing schedule of trains. Almost all trains reached their respective destinations hours beyond the scheduled time.

Skardu remained the coldest place in the country where mercury dropped 09 degree Celsius below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Kalam was recorded -07C, Astore and Quetta -06C, Gupis, Gilgit and Ziarat -05C and Parachinar -04C.

Maximum and minimum temperature in Lahore was recorded 18C and 06C respectively. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded 64 per cent.

Excessive usage of heaters in the offices and at home led to low gas pressure in various parts of Lahore.

In certain areas, women faced huge difficulties in cooking meals for their families.

According to the experts, continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country. A fresh westerly wave is likely to enter western parts of the country on Sunday and grip upper parts on Monday. It may persist over northern areas till Wednesday.

Local meteorological department has forecast mainly cold and dry weather for most parts of the country including Lahore during the next couple of days. Very cold weather conditions are likely to prevail in northern areas, Malakand and Quetta divisions. Dense fog is likely to persist over plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during night and morning hours.
